Baby Born with Covid-19 Antibodies in Singapore

News Desk: A Singaporean woman, who contracted a novel coronavirus in March when she was expecting, has delivered an infant with antibodies against the novel coronavirus. The theory jas triggered many interpretations on whether infection can be disseminated from mother to child.

The infant was born this month without Covid-19 but with its antibodies, reported the Straits Times journal.

‘My doctor suspects I have transferred my Covid-19 antibodies to him during my pregnancy,’ Celine Ng-Chan said to the paper in an interview.

Ng-Chan had fallen sick after getting infected from the disease and was released from hospital after two-and-a-half weeks, the Straits Times noted.

However, Ng-Chan and the National University Hospital (NUH), where she gave birth to her baby, did not instantly give any explanation.

The World Health Organisation is yet to confirm whether a pregnant woman with Covid-19 can transmit the virus to her unborn or newborn during pregnancy or delivery.
No active virus was detected in samples of fluid around the baby in the womb or in breast milk.
