A homeguard attempted suicide by shooting himself in the neck with a service rifle. Today, Monday morning, the incident took place at Raiganj Police Station in North Dinajpur.

The name of the home guard is Tapi Topdar (37). He was taken to Raiganj Medical College and Hospital with serious injuries. He underwent surgery there. The doctors said that the home guard’s condition is critical. Nothing can be said until the next 72 hours pass.

According to Police sources, the home guard shot himself in the neck from the service rifle at around 6:45 am on Monday morning. Police officials believe that he was mentally disturbed. The home guard lived in Raiganj Police Station barracks. He is a resident of Itahar. He was given mobile van duty early that day.

On that basis, he was given a rifle by signing the register. Suddenly he tried to commit suicide by firing from that service rifle. IC Sourav Sen of Raiganj Police Station said that if the home guard recovers a bit, we will try to know the whole incident by talking to him.
