Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra started the season with a bang. India’s golden boy is the champion at the Doha Diamond League on Friday. He threw the javelin for a distance of 88.67 meters in the first round. Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlech finished second with a throw of 88.63 meters. He crossed this distance in the second attempt. Third place went to Anderson Peter (85.88).
Neeraj Chopra was the Diamond League champion in Zurich last time too. This time in the first competition of the season, his target was to cover a distance of 90 meters. Even if it wasn’t possible on this day, it was Neeraj who won the title.
A career-best 4th throw by the Olympic gold-winning athlete at the Doha leg. In the remaining four attempts Neeraj threw 86.04, 85.47, 84.37 and 86.52 respectively.
However, he made a foul throw in the fourth round. After winning the title, Neeraj said, “Many fans came to support me. I am thrilled to put a smile on their faces. This continuity must be maintained.”
