After the IPL, KL Rahul was knocked out of the final of the World Test Championship. The captain of Lucknow Super Giants himself announced this news on Instagram.
Rahul suffered a thigh injury against Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 1. Surgery is required. The Lucknow captain gave details about this on his social media.
In his Instagram post, Rahul wrote, “On the advice of the medical team, I will have surgery on my thigh soon. In the coming weeks my focus will be on rehab. The decision was very difficult. But the right decision to return to the field is only after a full recovery. I am saddened not to be there during this challenging time as the leader of the team. But I believe, in this situation the boys will give their best. I will watch every match. Cheering for the team from the sidelines. I will not be at the Oval next month with Team India. I will come back and give my best to help the country with the bat again. That is my focus. I am grateful to the fans, teammates, Lucknow management and BCCI for standing by me during this difficult time. Your messages inspires me to come back stronger. I will give regular updates on my fitness. I hope to be able to return to the field again soon. The last few days have been very difficult. But I am hopeful of taking the top spot again. Injury is never easy. But as always I will give my best. Thank you for your support and well wishes.”
Krunal Pandya will lead Lucknow in Rahul’s absence. Lucknow Super Giants are in second place after winning five out of 10 matches. However, Rahul’s injury is a big obstacle in the way of the team’s playoffs.
