Night curfew, weekend curfew extended in Karnataka

News Desk: Karnataka on Saturday extended the night curfew along with weekend curfew in border districts of Kerala and Maharashtra as the states see a rise in Covid-19 cases and possible arrival of a third wave.

The weekend curfew, starting Friday at 9 pm till Monday at 5 am, will be imposed in eight border districts — Bidar, Kalaburgi, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Chamarajanagara, Mysuru, Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada.

The night curfew, which was earlier from 10 pm to 5 am, has been preponed and will be implemented from 9 pm instead of 10pm. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai after a meeting with the Covid-19 advisory committee and other senior officials.

The CM also announced the reopening of schools and PUC colleges (9th to 12th) from August 23 with classes on alternate days. The decision on opening of classes 1 to 8 will be taken later after taking stock of the pandemic situation.

Other states like Tamil Nadu, Goa, Haryana and Maharashtra have also extended the state curfews of lockdowns to various degrees.
