Today, on Monday,the court gave out the sentence.Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has been jailed for five years in fodder scam. He will also have to pay a fine of Rs 60 lakh. Lalu was convicted in the fifth case related to fodder scam. Lalu was then the Chief Minister of Bihar. The time is of the 1990s.
A case was filed for illegally withdrawing Rs 139.5 crore from the grant allotted for fodder. Lalu and 39 others were convicted in that case. Shortly after the verdict was announced, Lalu responded in Hindi on Twitter, “I fight against those who create divisions, They cannot defeat us, so they conspire and try to trap us. I was never scared. I did not bow my head in front of anyone. I will continue to fight. Cowards will not understand the battle of the warriors.”
Lalu is now out on bail. He did not appear directly due to illness. Join the hearing via video conference. The verdict in the fodder case was announced on 15 February. Right after that he fell ill. He was admitted to Ranchi Jail Hospital.
He has already spent three and a half years in jail. Although he was in the hospital most of the time. News had been coming that the leader of Rashtriya Janata Dal party may be released soon. Lalu’s lawyer can go to the High Court as well as the Supreme Court with an application to reduce the sentence.
Another case related to fodder scam is pending in the CBI court in Patna. Now the RJD chief and his family are looking forward towards that case. Earlier, Lalu was convicted in four more cases related to fooder scam.
A total of 950 crore rupees of corruption is standing against Lalu Prasad. There are allegations of taking Rs 37.7 crore and Rs 33.13 crore from Chaibasa treasury, Rs 89.27 crore from Deoghar treasury and Rs 3.76 crore from Dumka treasury.
