
Fire on the train. A fire broke out in the pantry car of the special train near Madurai station around 5:15 am on Saturday.
According to Railway sources, the accident took place in IRCTC special train Punalur-Madurai Express. The special train was going to Rameswaram from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.
At least ten passengers have been reported to have died of burns in the accident so far. The deceased are residents of Uttar Pradesh. The death toll is expected to increase.
It is said that there were 65 passengers in the train. And all were pilgrims. All the passengers were fast asleep when the accident happened. And the train was stationed.
A terrible fire broke out in a pantry car near Madurai station after a cylinder exploded. Later it spread to two other nearby compartments. The accident took place one kilometer away from Madurai Junction. An emergency team from Madurai station rushed to the spot on getting the news of the fire. The fire brigade brought the fire under control. The injured were rescued and taken to Railway Hospital in Madurai.
A team of railway experts reached the spot. Forensic and other investigations have also been initiated by the Railways. The coaches of the train that caught fire are being investigated. The speed of the train at the time of the accident is also being investigated.
It is learned that the special train started its journey from Lucknow on August 17. It was supposed to reach Chennai on Sunday. Before that, a terrible accident happened on Saturday morning. 10 lakh rupees has been announced to the families of the deceased.
