A student was allegedly raped inside the college premises in Coochbehar. A complaint was lodged against an alumni of the college on Friday evening. The incident took place at Tufanganj College. Students have been protesting in the college since Saturday morning demanding security.
According to Police sources, a student lodged a complaint with the Police on Friday alleging that the incident took place on November 30. The victim said, ‘While she was waiting for her friends after college on November 30, at that time, the alumni called her to an empty room and allegedly raped her.’ Although initially sge did not say anything out of fear but on Friday she lodged a complaint with the police.
The student has been admitted to Tufanganj Hospital. According to Police sources, her medical examination has also been done. Principal Debashis Chatterjee went to see the girl at the hospital on that day.
The Principal said, “There are doubts about how such an incident happened within the college premises. We are going to the Police. There is CCTV camera footage, the Police will look into it. The accused is a former student of the college. However, he is not supposed to enter the college at the moment, so he is an outsider. We demand an investigation. If found guilty, I want severe punishment.’
The Principal admitted the lack of security in the college in the incident of rape of a female student inside the college. And as a result, the students have started to protest at the gate of the college. The Trinamool Chhatra Parishad started protesting since Saturday morning. The Principal, however, assured earlier that more emphasis would be laid on the security of the college.
The family of the student complained to the college on Fridat evening. They then lodged a complaint with Tufanganj police station. The accused alumni Tapas Das is said to be a resident of Chilakhana area of Jaygir. Coochbehar District Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar said they had received allegations of rape in the college. .The victim is undergoing treatment at Tufanganj Sub-Divisional Hospital. Tufanganj Police have started investigation into the incident.
